Rio Tinto Creates Its First Global Leader Training Journey (2018 Case Study)
Rio Tinto executives, knowing that high levels of employee engagement require strong, aligned leaders, created its first global leadership-development program to develop leaders who provide a sense of direction, inspire others to stretch themselves, and drive company growth. The goal was to build a common understanding about what a great leader looks like at Rio Tinto whether in remote areas of Australia or in London. The learning journey includes six weeks of preparation activities, a two-day workshop and six months of post-work exercises. The initiative earned Rio Tinto a Gold Award for Best Advance in Leadership Development in the 2018 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards.
