The National Fire Protection Association developed eLearning with gamification to teach electricians (particularly new ones) how to navigate a complicated safety book. The National Electrical Code is long and text-based, making it difficult for users to find what they need when they need it. In the new course, an avatar guides learners through a building where each chapter of the code has its own room that users explore. They are required to refer to the code book to answer questions before the next room opens. The NFPA earned a Gold Award for Best Use of Games or Simulations for a Learning Program in the 2017 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards.
