PETRONAS Empowering Energy Leaders as Mental Health First Responders (Case Study)
PETRONAS implemented an innovative mental health first aid program called Mind-A-Care (MAC) Ambassador Certified Training to empower employees as mental health first responders. The program equips staff with skills to recognize mental health issues, provide initial support, and guide colleagues to seek professional help through their Employee Assistance Programme. Using a simplified C.A.R.E approach and comprehensive training modules including role-play scenarios and simulation exercises, PETRONAS aims to train 1,000 certified ambassadors by 2027 to achieve a 1:50 ratio of mental health first aiders to employees. The program has already trained 460 ambassadors and demonstrated measurable benefits in reducing mental illness burden and improving overall employee wellbeing.
PETRONAS earned a Gold award for Best Certification Program in the 2024 Brandon Hall Group™ HCM Excellence Awards.®
