Sears Uses Gamification to Teach Code of Honor
- Claude Werder
- Learning and Development, Talent Management, Human Resources
Sears Holdings Corp. introduced a gaming world to teach associates about its Code of Conduct by applying ethical principles to challenges that include wolves, dragons, and bandits. The challenges are “dangerous,” but associates can overcome them by applying their learning and earning points for correct answers. The compliance training translates the conduct code into meaningful terms, contexts, scenarios, and dilemmas that reflect real-work decisions. The course has been deployed to 176,000+ employees throughout 11 businesses. Sears Holding Corporation earned a Gold Award for Best Use of Games or Simulations for Learning Programs in the 2017 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards.
