Statoil Accelerates Mid-Level Leadership Development (2018 Case Study)

Statoil’s “Accelerate Your Leadership” program sought to revolutionize the company’s approach to developing mid-level leadership as a catalyst for change following the oil price downturn. AYL provides an immersive experience where leaders gain a variety of inputs to shape their leadership every day and enhance existing leadership practice. AYL uses a blended learning approach, and as such, incorporates a combination of different learning methods: collaboration and learning from peers, weekly Yammer actions linked to corporate priorities, leadership coaching from line managers, knowledge on demand and face-to-face workshops. For this innovation, Statoil won a Bronze Award for Best Unique or Innovative Leadership Development Program in the 2018 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards.
