REQUIREMENTS

  • The CLDS Certification Program is a three-phase certification program, and the phases must be completed in order. This is Phase 1.
  • Phase 1 covers all eight skill groups and 24 CLDS competencies. You may complete the lessons in any order, but you must complete every lesson in Phase 1 before moving on to Phase 2.
  • You may pause or exit at any time and pick up right where you left off from your Dashboard the next time you sign in.
  • Be sure to review the Important Resources for this Course, including the CLDS Resource Guide and the CLDS Excellence in Practice companion. You’ll refer to them again in Phases 2 and 3.
  • The last page of each lesson is a quiz. You must pass each quiz with a minimum score of 75%, and you have three attempts.
  • After each attempt, you’ll see your score. To maintain certification integrity, we do not reveal which questions you answered correctly or incorrectly, and correct answers are not provided.
  • If you don’t reach 75% in three attempts, you may request a quiz reset, which gives you three more attempts. To request a reset, email us at [email protected]. We respond as quickly as possible, but requests received after our business day may be answered the next business day.
  • Once you have completed all Phase 1 lessons and passed each quiz, you will move on to Phase 2.

About Course

The Certified Leadership Development Strategist (CLDS) certification from Brandon Hall Group prepares leadership development professionals for a role that has moved well beyond building programs for a select group of managers. Organizations now expect leadership development to strengthen the capabilities leaders need to execute strategy, guide transformation, develop talent, shape culture and improve business performance at every level of the enterprise. Leaders face faster technology cycles, more distributed teams, shifting workforce expectations and harder decisions about where human judgment and AI should each be used. Leadership development has to prepare them for that ambiguity, not just teach established practices. The CLDS framework draws on Brandon Hall Group’s more than 30 years of human capital research and defines 24 competencies organized into eight skill groups across two competency groups. Professional Competencies build the individual capabilities of the leadership development strategist, and Organizational Competencies address the systems, practices and enterprise conditions the strategist must understand and influence.

The course pairs the CLDS Resource Guide with the Excellence in Practice companion. The companion brings each competency to life through seven Brandon Hall Group Excellence Award-winning programs from Centene, Chick-fil-A, Colgate-Palmolive, GE HealthCare, Merck, PayPal and Workday. You’ll move from understanding each competency’s definition, to recognizing it in real leadership development solutions, to applying it in your own organization. The certification is completed in three phases. Phase 1 assesses your knowledge of all eight skill groups and 24 competencies through scenario-based questions. Phases 2 and 3 ask you to demonstrate your command of the competencies through case study work, first with an award-winning scenario and then with one from your own organization.
